What is the difference between micro-needling and nano-needling?

Both nano-needling & micro-needling address the same skincare concerns and they both use a needling pen to create micro-channels in the skin. The main difference between the two is the depth that the needles are able to penetrate into the skin. Nano-needling only punctures the first layer of the skin (epidermis) while micro-needling penetrates into the deep dermis. If you are concerned about fine lines & wrinkles, swelling, dark pigmentation or sagging skin, then nano-needling is for you. If your skin care concerns include deep wrinkles, hypo-pigmentation, stretch marks or deep acne scars, than micro-needling would be the treatment for that. By creating these micro-channels in the skin, it increases product absorption by 97% and encourages your body to rejuvenate itself. (We only offer the nano-needling service)

Is Nano-Needling Safe?

Skin needling can be safely performed on all skin types and colors. There is no risk of post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation as the melanocytes remain intact (as long as post-care instructions are followed). This treatment is highly effective if you’re hoping to reduce the appearance of fine lines (especially around the eyes and lips), improve the tone and texture of your skin, shrink the appearance of your pore size, reduce pigmentation or lift and firm the skin.

What does a Nano-needling treatment include?

We like to customize each treatment to your specific skin care concerns whether it be aging, brightening or clarifying, we want to give you the best results possible. Want to start off small? How often can I get a Nano-needling treatment?

Nano-Needling can be done every two to three weeks. For best results, we recommend a series of treatments.

What is the difference of at home “needle-rollers/derma-rollers” and a Professional treatment?

Most at home needling devices use a rolling wheel of needles while our CIT nano-needling pen has a disposable cartridges with a cluster of needles at the tip. Both work to stimulate growth of new collagen and elastin by causing an injury to the skin. Aside from at home needling devices being sold with no training or protocol, there are a couple concerns for the potential risks of using one. Professional needling pens use disposable tips which decrease the risk for infection and contamination. At home rollers are reusable devices that most people would not think to sterilize. Studies have shown that even after proper sterilization, the proteins in your skin still do not break down and are therefore left on the device to grow bacteria which leaves you open to infection the next time you give yourself a treatment. The width & depth of the needles also play a huge factor in the treatment. Your at home needling devices are sold on a roller and because of that they are not penetrating into your skin on a flat surface and instead are rolling/gliding into your skin on an angle. This action can cause microscopic tears and could  leave you with scaring, granulomas and skin more damaged than what you started with. Needling treatments can also be done too often and by not allowing the proper amount of time for the skin to rejuvenate itself, you will eventually break down and damage the formation of your collagen and elastin production. Professional needling pens are able to penetrate the skin on a flat surface as well as doing multiple passes without creating the same channel twice or tearing the skin. Professional needling pens also use disposable tips therefore eliminating the risk of infection. It is very important what products you are using during/after your at home needling treatments. Using the wrong products can generate an inflammatory response and possibly cause lumpiness, granulomas and scarring. Your ingredients matter and they need to meet a certain criteria. Needling, both at home and professionally can give fantastic results as long as the proper education goes into it. If you are still interested in at home needling, we suggest that you use a disposable cartridge and do your research as to how often you should be performing it as well as thoroughly researching the products you are using.

What are the results of a Nano-Needling treatment?

Contraindications for Nano-Needling

• Keloid or raised scarring.
• Pregnancy due to the lack of clinical studies.
• Herpes Simplex infections.
• Diabetes.
• Any facial injections within the past 10 days.
• Patients on any blood thinners.
• Immune-suppression diseases.
• Scars less than 6 months old.
• Raised moles, warts or raised lesions
• Treatment cannot be performed if the following is present: Any open cuts, wounds, abrasions, and active acne or cold sores.
